Something I’ve been thinking about for a while now, is that there’s not a whole lot of places for erotic authors to chit-chat and share info on what works and what doesn’t. Not so much on writing, but on marketing, dealing with publishers, cover designers, etc.
To that end, I’ve created a Facebook group for erotica authors here:
You don’t have to be a commercial author, and you don’t have to be published on paper. But anyone petitioning to join this group should have at least posted a free story somewhere. And our goal is to make everyone successful, at whatever it is they’re trying to accomplish in their writing career.
If you’re thinking “I’m not joining a group of my competitors”, then you should consider the following: I mean what I said here, where I said that erotica authors are “not in competition with each other”. Think about it: in movies, “Die Hard” doesn’t compete with “Terminator” on the rental shelf; everybody who’s into action movies has watched both, or will. Good erotica doesn’t compete with good erotica either, and bad erotica is no competition for good erotica in the first place. Our job is to write good erotica, and let the bad authors worry about becoming better. None of us stand to lose anything by sharing this kind of information successfully.
